In the process of untangling a lie Justin's father told 25 years ago, Justin comes to realize that he, himself, has become his father.
Justin’s father tells an amusement park ticket agent that his son’s mother has recently passed away in order to gain free entry into the park. What follows is a fragmented, heartfelt, and sometimes absurdist exploration of a pivotal moment in Justin’s childhood, told by Justin himself and 6 copies of him, featuring original music and archival audio recordings.
This week-long workshop of Goodbye To Myself, Pt. 1 is being executed in preparation for the final presentation of the work as Justin’s Master’s Thesis in Music Composition, which will take place in the Fall of 2025.

ABOUT THE COMPOSER:
JUSTIN FRIELLO is a multi-genre composer and performer. From 2012-2017, he was an active member of the Lehman Engel BMI Musical Theatre Advanced Workshop in New York City. It was there where he met his writing partner, Cleo Handler. Together, they wrote their full-length original musical, From The Fire, which was selected for the Off Broadway Musical Theater Production Program at the Players Theatre and was a semi-finalist at the National Music Theatre Conference. Justin has also worked extensively with Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany, NY as both a writer and performer. He co-wrote the music and lyrics for the touring Theatre for Young Audiences adaptation of Sleepy Hollow, composed underscoring and incidental music for another touring TYA production based on 12 Years a Slave (in addition to performing on both TYA tours), and has appeared onstage as an actor-musician in numerous musical theatre productions. Justin was featured in Playbill online for his arranging and orchestration work on the video series, "SONDHEIM…In The Style Of…," which he co-produced with composer/arranger Andrew Fox. Most recently, he was the Composer, Assistant Music Director, and sole musician for the UNT Department of Dance and Theatre's production of The Donner Party. Justin has been a proud member of Actors' Equity Association since 2015.
